Review - Before the Fall by Noah Hawley

Reading Before the Fall was a little bit of a departure for me, as you may have noticed by now I gravitate heavily towards popular fiction, mysteries and romance novels of all kind. However, as a librarian, I try to read books that have taken readers notice and have a large holds list. Sometimes I like them and sometimes I don't.

I waited patiently on the libraries hold list (currently at 98 holds) for this book. This time I am glad that I waited. Before the Fall grabbed my attention right away, and I even enjoyed the format of the book, which switched from present times to flashbacks. I usually do not like that at all, but it worked in this book. The two main characters are the only survivors of a plane crash, a painter Scott Burroughs and a little boy named J.J., were likable from the first chapter. The premise of the book is explained in the title, what happened before the plane crashed that lead to the crash and the death of all but two passengers. The people on the plane were mostly rich and powerful, was the crash an accident or was is it something else?

I found the book very well written, interesting and captivating. I didn't see the ending coming and it was a surprise. I recommend this one!

Chicken Quest

I have been wanting chickens for years and years, but I am a city girl and chickens didn't seem like something I could have. But I was wrong! In November 2018 our city council passed a chicken ordinance and suddenly my chicken dreams seemed like they could come true! I spent last winter reading everything I could find about chickens and researching everything having to do having chickens in the city, and what types of coops would be best. Review: Wild Horse Springs by Jodi Thomas

Thanks to NetGalley for the Advanced Readers Copy of this one. I read it in January but am a little behind on my blogging. I love a good cowboy story, but this one was just OK. Wild Horse Springs is the fifth in the Ransom Canyon series...but it certainly isn't my favorite of the bunch. This story features sheriff Dan Brigman and Brandi Malone. Brandi is a singer who is running from a loss...she travels from town to town preforming on the stage and trying to forget her past. When danger strikes Brandi ends up running to Dan instead of running away like she usually does. The story also features Lauren Brigman, Dan's daughter, who has come home after her job in Dallas doesn't pan out. Lauren has to decide if home is where her heart is or if she is going to travel back out into the world and try and forge a new life. I have not been posting a lot! The back to school season has been rough with updating schedules, sporting and school events, working full time and adding a dog to our family!
