Recommended Reading!

I have not been posting a lot! The back to school season has been rough with updating schedules, sporting and school events, working full time and adding a dog to our family! I have been reading and listening to books though! Here are a few I loved the last few weeks!

Sweet Little Lies by Jill Shalvis:
I finally got around to reading the first in the new Heartbreaker Bay series! I read and reviewed the second one recently. Click HERE for that post! This one was just as fun as the first one. I loved Pru and Finn's story. I am really looking forward to the next ones in this series.

Hope in a Jar by Beth Harbinson:
I liked this one a lot more than the last one I read by her. This story featured former best friends who have known each other since high school, Allie and Oliva. Also, in the mix was their friend Noah who found himself in the middle of the two when they had a falling out. Relationships needed to be renewed and the girls find out that friendships may change but they can last.

Never Judge a Lady by Her Cover by Sarah MacLean:
This one has been on my list for a long time! I finally got around to it and wasn't disappointed. I loved the hero Duncan West, imposing newspaper man and Lady Georgiana, a ruined sister of a duke who has her own secrets! The chemistry between them was powerful and also the feeling that their situation was a little bit helpless. Very satisfying!

Just Kiss Me by Rachel Gibson:
So much fun! Vivian returns home after a long time away having made it big. She never expects to find the boy next door is still around, and so much more fun than she remembers!

First Comes Love Review

First Comes Love by Emily Giffin is a story about sisters. Josie and Meredith lost their brother years ago and both of them are still trying to move on from their loss. Josie never lets herself love or be loved again but is desperate to have a child. Meredith has what seems on the surface to be a perfect family, a husband who adores her and a beautiful little girl. But she can't help but think something is missing. Although there are many aspects of this book, it's ultimately a book about sisters and family. I enjoyed the book, although I struggled a bit with how the story lines. It wasn't a satisfying ending for me because there were still a lot of loose ends. I prefer my books to be wrapped up with a bow at the end with a happy ending. However, the writing was strong, I fell in love with the characters and a saw them grow and change throughout the book. I saw glimpses of happy endings and I suppose that will be good enough...

Review: Wild Horse Springs by Jodi Thomas

Thanks to NetGalley for the Advanced Readers Copy of this one. I read it in January but am a little behind on my blogging. I love a good cowboy story, but this one was just OK. Wild Horse Springs is the fifth in the Ransom Canyon series...but it certainly isn't my favorite of the bunch. This story features sheriff Dan Brigman and Brandi Malone. Brandi is a singer who is running from a loss...she travels from town to town preforming on the stage and trying to forget her past. When danger strikes Brandi ends up running to Dan instead of running away like she usually does. The story also features Lauren Brigman, Dan's daughter, who has come home after her job in Dallas doesn't pan out. Lauren has to decide if home is where her heart is or if she is going to travel back out into the world and try and forge a new life. There are some really solid parts to this story, but it did fall a little flat for me. It look me a long time to get into it...

Review: The Second Mrs. Hockaday by Susan Rivers

Historical Fiction can be hit or miss for me, I either like it or I don't. The Second Mrs. Hockaday lands in the like pile, but it took me almost half of the book to decide. This is a really interesting book because it's told only though letters and diary entries. It wasn't until part two of the book that I really got involved and wanted to know what REALLY happened on the farm. Major Gryffth Hockaday is away at war, leaving his new bride behind with his son from his first marriage. Placidia does her best to keep up the farm and protect the crops and animals with the help of hired hands while her husband is away. But being alone on a farm during the Civil War isn't easy and everyone pays a price. When Major Hockaday returns from war he finds out his wife is in jail and she is accused of murdering her newborn baby. A baby she had during his two year absence. The reader is left trying to guess what happened during those long hard years. ...
