Best of My Love by Susan Mallery Review

Catching up with the Fool’s Gold family is one of my favorite things to do and I look forward to each new book. I was excited to be able to read an advanced copy from the publisher! Best of My Love features Shelby and Aidan, and I knew after the first few pages it would become one of my favorite Fool’s Gold stories. Shelby and Aidan both decide that they need to make some big changes in their lives and overcome their fear of commitment. The best way to do that? Become friends instead of dating, no kissing, no sex, no relationship. However their chemistry is undeniable and they discover that love and friendship are not exclusive of one another other. Aidan is a great character; he is funny and very likable. He fits right in on Shelby’s girl dates and becomes one of the group quickly. His best moments may be when he is picking out a new dog for himself. Shelby is adorable and knows what she wants, she gamely tries her best on Aidan’s guy dates and they quickly become inseparable. Watching them become friends who support each other in all ways and then become a real couple is heartwarming. The book featured all of the Fool’s Gold family that we have grown to love as well, catching up with all of them was wonderful. I highly recommend this book!

First Star I See Tonight by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

First Star I See Tonight is a satisfying addition to the Chicago Stars series.  Cooper Graham has just retired as the quarterback when he meets private investigator Piper.  Their relationship starts off with a mutual dislike that quickly turns into one full of sparks. Watching Cooper and Piper navigate the waters is fascinating and entertaining.  In the end Cooper lays it all on the line in order to win his biggest game ever...a happily ever after. I highly recommend both the series and the book. Thanks to Edelweiss for the Advanced Reader's Copy! Also, thanks to LibraryReads for chosing my review for their August list!  Click here to see what else librarians recommend for August. Rated 5/5 on Goodreads...

Chicken Quest

I have been wanting chickens for years and years, but I am a city girl and chickens didn't seem like something I could have.  But I was wrong!  In November 2018 our city council passed a chicken ordinance and suddenly my chicken dreams seemed like they could come true! I spent last winter reading everything I could find about chickens and researching everything having to do having chickens in the city, and what types of coops would be best.  Our local pet store orders chicks from a local hatchery, and I decided to get chicks from the May shipment.  I read about each of the types of chicks in that shipment and decided to get an assortment. After confirming with the neighbors that they wouldn't object to chickens, I ordered five chicks (the maximum amount allowed by our city accordance). I decided to order two Dominiques, one Colombian Wyandotte, one Calico Princess and one Midnight Majesty Maran. Step one of the chicken quest was underway, so I started to fill out...

Review - From the Sidelines by Amy Avanzion

One of my favorite things in the whole world is discovering a new author! Amy Avanzino is my new author this week, I loved From the Sidelines ! One of the things I loved most about this book is how I could relate to many parts of the story even though the main character Autumn is completely different than me (I however am a mother to three boys, all who played football!). I always admire writers than can make me feel that personal connection to a character or a story.  Autumn is an overprotective, single mom to a 10 year old boy who one day decides he wants to play football. Autumn knows nothing about sports and is not sure that this is a good idea at all. She has never thought that he was a sports type at all. However, since the end of her disastrous marriage Zachary hasn't been very happy and she wants to change that. She jumps right into the world of football, meets new people, learns how to trust herself and others and most importantly watches her son gain his footing and gai...
